MAY 2-30 – Parent Workshop Series: Planning and Networking for Transition

The Special Education and Support Services Department is hosting a series of five-week interactive workshops designed for parents and their young adults with developmental disabilities to develop a transition plan that will take them from high school life to adult life.  This workshop series is called Planning and Networking for Transition. This year, a Parent Reaching Out grant secured by the Special Education Advisory Committee will support these sessions, which are free to participants. Families are asked to commit to attending all five evenings in the workshop. The spots will be given out on a first come first served basis. Times: 6:30 pm - 8:30 pm. MAY 13 & 14 – Iona’s 2nd Annual Dance Concert “Cover to Cover”

Iona Catholic Secondary Dance Department presents their 2nd annual dance concert "Cover to Cover" at Meadowvale Theatre in Mississauga.  This is a multidisciplinary show that uses cover songs to explore the different "stories" we experience in daily life.  Tickets are $20 and can be bought from the Iona main office  or at the theatre the day of.  Come and discover the stories that lay within the chapters of "Cover to Cover! MAY 15 - St. Joseph S.S. hosts its Annual X-Awards Breakfast Banquet

This is a very successful event where the Most Valuable Members and Most Dedicated Members of all the Extracurricular Clubs in the school are recognized.  At this event the MVM and MDM are awarded with medals, certificates, and a breakfast for their hard work and dedication in the club throughout the school year. MAY 15 - Mississauga East Diversity Conference
On May 15, the Mississauga East Diversity Conference will take place at Philip Pocock Catholic Secondary School. Some 275 students and staff from 24 elementary and secondary schools will gather for a liturgy and guest speaker, Orlando Bowen. Orlando is a former CFL star and currently works with students across Ontario on their leadership skills with the school and the broader community. Orlando infuses the Virtues into his work so that students can connect their potential as a gift from God. Students will then participate in a session run by Blue Veil Ministries which will then be followed by breakout sessions hosted by Pocock student leaders, under the guidance of Harmony Movement and Pocock staff. MAY 15 & 16 - Arts Menagerie: Any Dream Will Do
 
The Performing and Visual Arts Department of Father Michael Goetz C.S.S. invite you to Arts Menagerie: Any Dream Will Do on May 15 and 16. Arts Menagerie is a Springtime Celebration of the all the Arts offered at Father Michael Goetz - Musical Theatre, Dance, Drama, Music, Visual Arts, Media and Photography classes and performing ensembles will be presenting their work. The "Goetz Gallery", displaying works from the Visual Arts, Media and Photography classes, has viewing starting at 6:30 p.m. The Goetz Stage will come alive with the Dance, Drama Music starting at 7:00 p.m. Tickets $5. St. Thomas Aquinas S.S. is hosting a Multicultural Day on May 16. Doors will open at 5:00 p.m. The first show will be at 5:30 p.m., the second show will be at 7:30 p.m.. The Pavilions will be open all night long from 5:00 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. Tickets are $7 for adults, $5 for children, and a family package (2 adults, 2 children) for $15. MAY 16 – Our Lady of Mount Carmel Secondary School's Annual Spring Concert

Come and hear both old classics and recent hits as performed by our Grade 9 Band, Choir, Jazz Ensemble and Concert Band.  Whatever your musical tastes, there is bound to something to please everyone.  The concert begins at 7:00 p.m. in the school's library. Loyola Catholic Secondary School will be hosting a Parent Barbeque, School Tour and Spotlight Music Show on May 16. The Barbeque and school tours will take place from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00  p.m. Spotlight Music Show will take place from 7:00 p.m. - 9:00 p.m. Cost of the Barbeque is $3.00 - which includes a drink, chips and a hamburger. MAY 16 – Preparing Children for Success in School and Life
The Dufferin-Peel Catholic District School Board’s Special Education Advisory Committee's (S.E.A.C.) is sponsoring a workshop session for parents of students with diverse learning needs entitled Preparing Children for Success in School and Life with Marcia Tate.  This initiative is made possible through the Parent Reaching Out grant funded by the Ministry of Education.  Participants in this workshop will learn techniques which can help them get their children off to a healthy start, build relationships with them throughout their lives, equip them with the necessary structure for healthy brain development, and assist them in increasing their academic achievement. MAY 17 - Sixth Annual Mississauga North Shining Stars Activity Day at St. Aloysius Gonzaga S.S.

This ‘special needs’ activity day is for elementary students in the Mississauga North Family of Schools.   It provides special needs students in Grades 1 to 8 with an opportunity to participate in a variety of accommodated physical activities. MAY 22 – Loyola C.S.S. presents its spring play
The performance will be a combined production of Wayne Rawley's Controlling Interest and Jonathan Rand's Check Please. Both plays are comedic contemplations on the politics that exist between the genders, starting in the school yard all the way to the tumultuous grown up world of dating.  There will be a student matinee at 12:50 p.m. and an evening performance at 7:00 p.m.  The performances will take place in the Lecture Hall performance space.   Refreshments will be served.  Come for the laughs - see you there! MAY 24 – DPCDSB hosts a “Day of Amazing Grace” with Cardinal Collins
On May 24, Dufferin-Peel Catholic students will be celebrating a "Day of Amazing Grace" which will involve a Eucharistic celebration with Cardinal Collins followed by lunch and festivities afterward. This year, the event is being hosted at St. Francis Xavier Secondary School located at 50 Bristol Road West, Mississauga. The mass will begin at 10:00 a.m., and will bring together approximately 20 individuals from every secondary school in the board. This event is being organized by the Student Voice Council (SVC). Bring your family be enchanted by St. Veronica students who will be presenting Disney’s Beauty and the Beast Jr. on June 19 and 20 at 7:00 p.m.  Doors will open at 6:00 p.m., and croissants, fruit, cheese, and beverages will be available for purchase.  Tickets are $6.00 and can be purchased at the door.  Location: St. Veronica School, 680 Novo Star Drive, Mississauga. JUNE 22 - St. Teresa of Avila Fun Fair
Save the Date!! St. Teresa of Avila is having a Fun Fair on Saturday, June 22 from 11 a.m. – 3 p.m. The fair will feature bouncers, Olympic taekwondo demos, mini-yoga classes, refreshments and a marketplace -  it's a great way to spend the day. Fr. Tobin was the first school chaplain for DPCDSB and was well known by many. We are having a dinner and dance in his honour on October 19 at Rizzo's Banquet Hall, 1941 Albion Rd., Toronto.
